M. Fay Hasken
Mary “Fay” Hasken, 97 of Galena, Illinois, passed away peacefully with loving family by her side on Sunday, March 5, 2023. A private family service will be held at a later date. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. Fay was born on September 22, 1925, to Charles and Margaret Zeal. She was married to her husband of 66 years, Edgar F. Hasken until his death in 2008. Together they raised five children. She retired from the Jo Daviess County Courthouse after working many years in the Supervisor of Assessment Office. Not one to sit idle for long, Fay enjoyed sewing, crocheting, baking, and taking her daily walks. Most of all, she loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed making their favorite desserts: chocolate-green chocolates and the famous Easter lamb and bunny cakes. Grandma Fay, as her grandchildren called her, was the glue that held our family together, preparing holiday dinners for gatherings in her home where we enjoyed the time we shared. We were truly blessed by her presence in our lives. Fay is survived by her daughters, Sandy Hasken, Janice Harris, and Jackie (Chuck) Werner; daughters-in-law Butchie Hasken and Roxann Hasken; ten grandchildren Patrice (Brian) Kuhn, Paul (Kelli) Hasken, Scott (Carrie) Hasken, Cassie (Kevin) VanWaardenburg, Joshua (Jennifer) Harris, Kelly (Lon) Scheuerell, Jeff Hasken (Shaina Effinger), Lindsey Hasken, Brendan (Autumn) Werner, and Macalister Werner; fifteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; one sister Sally Merschat, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Fay was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons Ronald and Rick, her brother Dale (Florence) Zeal, and her sisters Jane (Leslie) Tippet, Rose (Ralph) Simmons, and Joanne (Tom) Fangman and a brother-in-law, Ray Merschat. Fay’s family would like to send a special thank you to her goddaughter Margo Simmons for her unwavering support and to the exceptionally caring and compassionate people of Hospice of Dubuque. Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Dubuque and to the Glioblastoma Research Organization.
