Louise E. Reitz, 94 of Galena, IL passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Midwest Medical Center, Galena. In keeping with her wishes a private family service will be held at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. She was born December 3, 1929, in Sabula, IA, the daughter of Peter and Dolly (Stoddard) Hoyer. Louise was united in marriage to Louis “Louie” B. Reitz on October 21, 1947, in Galena and together they had five children. He preceded her in death on July 27, 2001. She worked many jobs in her life including the Savanna Army Depot and Leo’s Super Valu, Galena. She enjoyed a good game of euchre and going to the casino. She is survived by her three daughters, Kay (Richard Miller) Temperly of Galena, Lynn (Lee) Foecking of Highland Beach, FL, and Bette (Curtis) Spensley of Geneseo, IL, one son, John “Louie” Reitz of Galena, eleven grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren, four-step-great-grandchildren, five-step great-great-grandchildren, a son-in-law, Eric Einsweiler and sister-in-law, Marian Hoyer, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Shirley Einsweiler, a son-in-law, Gary Temperly, one sister, and six brothers. The family would like to thank the staff at Midwest Medical Center, Dr. Vandigo, and his staff for the care they gave Louise.

We have many fond memories of Louise from our time living next door on Campbell Street. She made Barbie clothes for our daughter so she could dress up her doll. She taught Barb how to make grape jelly from our “vineyard” in the back yard. And we always knew when Louie was in trouble. “LOUIS!!!” We hope she has found a good euchre game in eternal life.
