Karen Elaine Wasson, 85, of Galena, IL, passed away Monday, March 18, 2024, at the Midwest Senior Care Center. A funeral service will be held at noon, Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel in Galena, where friends may call after 11 AM until the time of service. A parish rosary will be recited at 10:30 AM. The burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena. She was born March 27, 1938, in New Diggings, WI, the daughter of George and Lucy (Carter) Symons. Karen attended school in New Diggings and Benton, WI. She married Bert Wasson in East Dubuque, IL, on February 23, 1957, and he preceded her in death on May 18, 1989. Karen was employed for over 30 years at the Palace Motel until she retired in 1989. Karen was an avid animal lover; she enjoyed her Pepsi, listening to the scanner, and following the news. She was a dedicated wife and mother and was exceptionally devoted to her family. She is survived by her son, Kevin of Jacksonville, FL, a sister-in-law, Catherine Symons, and her many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Randy, a daughter, Lisa, three brothers, Gene, Phillip, and Bob, two sisters, Dora and Clarice, and a sister-in-law, Lillian Symons-Knox. The family would like to thank Midwest Senior Care Center, Dr. Koenigs, Jordan Frank, Terry and Elly Renner, Rhonda Wasson, and an extra special thank you to Glenn and Lynn Harris.
