John H. Sites, 67 of Galena, IL passed away, Monday, February 22, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.  Funeral services will be 11 AM, Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Burial will be held in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Galena. Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM, Friday, February 26, 2016 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel. He was born August 3, 1948 in Parkton, MD the son of Henry and Erma (Grimm) Sites. John was united in marriage to Cherree Folks on April 1, 1968 in Hanover, IL and she survives. He was employed by John Deere Dubuque Works for over thirty years until his retirement. Following retirement he worked for the Keg & Cask Liquor Store in Galena with his good friend Larry. John liked to fish, go to the races, watching NASCAR and wrestling. He loved his family and especially enjoyed taking his (“little helpers”) grandchildren to the park. He is survived by his wife, seven children, Tonda (Troy) Muehleip, Tina (Brian Scharpf) Halstead, John (Heather) Sites, Jason (Ashley) Sites, Josh (Holli Kraus) Sites, Tasha (Justin Brown) Sites and Jesse (Ashley Wickler) Sites all of Galena, fourteen grandchildren, Tiffany, Jordan, Devin, Taylor, Taryn, Tracy, Kylie, Parker, Joseph, Dylan, Jackson, Camaryn, McKaylah and Owen, three great-grandchildren, Eliah, Allie and Ace, brothers and sisters, many nieces and nephews and special friends Kim and Bucky. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Collin and his brothers. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Dubuque, the staff at Finley Unity Point Hospital and our many friends your kindness and compassion during this difficult time will never be forgotten.
