Howard “Pidge” Stevens, 84 of Galena, IL passed away quietly on May 21, 2019, at his home. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no public services. Cremation rites have been accorded. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. He was born March 30, 1935, in Akron, OH the son of Joseph and Frances (Dyer) Stevens. Pidge grew up an all Ohio boy. Thru his childhood he was active in boy scouts, church, soap box derby cars and racing were rites of passage in Greensburg. Basketball at GHS was a “big deal” and he loved playing “buckets”, and proudly attended the Ohio State University. Farming was his lifeblood, the smell of rain on a freshly plowed field, corn in full tassel and restoring old tractors was his idea of pure heaven. Even long afterward, when he was an accomplished businessman, he wasn’t far from the land he loved or a John Deere. Howard was a strong, proud and stubborn man, but he loved, he was loved and he will be terribly missed. He is survived by his wife, Susan, his children, Rebecca (Alan), Amy (Dale), Melissa and Christopher, his grandchildren, Catherine, Aaron, Kaity, Bret, Alex and Kyle, sister, Joanne (Bruce) and sister-in-law, Carol. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard.
