Glenn R. Wienen, 84 of Galena, IL passed away at 5:03 AM, Saturday, April 9, 2016 at his home from complications of lung cancer, surrounded by his family. Funeral service will be 11 AM, Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena. Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM, Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel. He was born August 22, 1931 in Galena the son of Harry and Margaret (Gerlich) Wienen. Glenn graduated from St. Mary’s School and attended Galena High School. He was united in marriage to Genevieve Sproule on November 24, 1951 in Galena and she survives. Glenn farmed his entire life until his retirement. He enjoyed playing euchre with his grandsons, Jimmy and Garrett, his trips to the casino, snow birding in Apache Junction, AZ and family gatherings. Glenn was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. He was a member of the Galena Elks Lodge and Eagles Club. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve, three children, Duane of Galena, Diane of McAlester, OK and Doris (Bobby) Hahn of Galena, six grandchildren, Matt (fiancé’ Sandra), Nikki (Matt), Jeff (Lori), Jim (Laura), Jimmy and Garrett, eight great-grandchildren, Kristen, Steph, Abby, Samantha, Alyssa, Sara, Zach and Alex, step-great grandson, Ryan, a step great-great granddaughter, Kyra, a sister, Margaret Hasken of Freeport, IL , brother in-law, Ron (Linda) Sproule of Galena, three sisters in-law, JoAnn Sproule of Galena, Virginia Sproule of Springfield, MO and Ann Wienen of Ironwood, MI and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Jason, a daughter in-law, Deb Wienen, three brothers, Luras, Alfred and Ellis Wienen, three sisters, Almira Kupfer, Lucille Casserly and Mary Wienen, his father and mother in-law, Cyrus and Mildred Sproule.
