Gertrud “Trudy” Marie Farbstein-Richle, following a brief illness, passed peacefully from this world to the next on September 28, 2024. She was 100 years of age. Respecting her wishes, a private family memorial will be held later. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, is assisting the family. She was born in Wattwil, Switzerland, on April 9, 1924. She married her beloved, Martin, in 1950, and the union was maintained through an enduring and loving marriage of 67 years. She eventually permanently emigrated to the United States with her growing family in 1962, becoming a proud citizen of the United States in 1967, though never forgetting her Swiss heritage. After raising her family in Hazel Green, WI, she lived in Galena, IL, for the past 36 years. She was always known for the love she showed all who had the privilege to know her and the positive, giving presence, full of good humor, that engaged and fortified every interaction. She will be greatly missed by all she touched. Her children, in particular, will always recognize her as a caring, devoted, and loving mother without equal. Though a woman of many talents and contributions, she was most proud of her skill as a homemaker and maintained a vibrant, independent existence to her final breath. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Martin, and her daughter, Ursula. She is survived by her immediate and loving family, son Bruce, and daughters Tracy and Arlene. In memoriam, the family would request any remembrance donations to the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra Fund as a testimonial to her lifelong love of music.
