George Charnas III

George Peter Joseph Charnas III, 72, of Dickeyville, WI, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, surrounded by family and loved ones. Private family services will be held. The Furlong Funeral Chapel of Galena, IL, is assisting the family. George was born on December 3, 1952, in Chicago and moved to the Scale Mound area 40 years ago, later making Dickeyville his home. George fulfilled many roles for so many: a beloved son and brother, loving husband, father and grandfather, a trusted confidant to many, and a sounding board to anyone needing advice. George was always generous with his time, helping anyone who needed a hand, someone to shoot the breeze with, or a riding partner for any motorcycle trip across the country. He is survived by his wife and best friend Patti Jo Hilby-Charnas, his daughter Kathy (Jimmy) Armbrecht of Dubuque and her children Jared, Tag, Morgan, Ty, and Avery; a daughter in law, Melanie Charnas of Austin, Tx and her children, Jalen and Aly Charna; three siblings, Georgeen Charnas, Alma(Pat) Singer, Bobby (Pat) Charnas, his four stepchildren Jessica (Tony) Polfer their children Marcella, Marissa and Addie, Crystal (Christopher) Spaith and their children Logan and Maximus, Shannon Handfelt and her children Izzy, Briley, Bryce and Blain, Eric (Santana) Handfelt and their children Adeline, Hazel, Andrew and Jeremiah one great grandchild Judah. He was preceded in death by his parents, his maternal and paternal grandparents, his daughter Dena, his son Chad, beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
