Dorean L. Redfern, 90, of Scales Mound, IL passed away peacefully Monday, December 10, 2018 at her home. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 15, 2018 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Friends may call after 9 AM, Saturday at the funeral home until time of service. Burial will be in Council Hill Cemetery, rural Scales Mound. She was born on October 28, 1928 to Clifford and Clara (Daters) Smart in the same Council Hill residence. She graduated from Galena High School in 1946. She married Paul Redfern in 1947 and he preceded her in death on May 24, 2008. Dorean was a homemaker until going to work at Hazel Green Hospital and Clinic, Hazel Green, WI where she worked for 20 years. When it closed she worked for Medical Associates in Dubuque, IA until her retirement in 2002. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She especially loved attending many of her grandchildren’s sporting events. She enjoyed flower gardening, photography, shopping and attending country music shows. She had a passion for giving cats a good home and dearly loved them all. She served as an officer for the Council Hill Cemetery for many years. Survivors include her daughter Patricia (David) Casper of Galena, grandson Michael (Katey) Casper of Dubuque, IA, granddaughter Michelle Engst of Bloomington, IL, grandsons Brian (Kelly) Schonhoff, Eric (Monica) Schonhoff and Chris Schonhoff of the San Diego, CA area and granddaughter Jenny Purtee (fiancé Matt Marradi) of Los Angeles, CA., eight great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter Paula Schonhoff, her great granddaughter Sarah Schonhoff, a nephew Kevin Redfern, two sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law. A special thank you to Dubuque Hospice, especially Paul, Julie and Kristen.
