Cheryl A. Birkbeck

On March 2, 2026, a beloved mother, sister, and grandmother, Cheryl A. Birkbeck, 67 of Galena, IL, passed away at Mercy One. A celebration of life will be held on September 27, 2026, at Wienen Park in Galena; the time is TBD. The Furlong Funeral Chapel in Galena is assisting the family. She was born on March 3, 1958, in Lima, Peru, the daughter of Robert and Nancy (Erickson) Dorris. A humble and kind-hearted soul, Cheryl treasured her family above all else. She dedicated her life to caring for others through a career in nursing. Cheryl was always involved in her kids’ and grandkids’ sporting events. She enjoyed legal and medical dramas, pigs, Eeyore, the Bears, and gambling with her kids. Cheryl loved traveling and looked forward to returning to Peru. Her generosity, courage, strength, and charisma were known to all. She will forever be missed and loved, but will never be forgotten. Cheryl is survived by her four children, Brandon (Tracy) Birkbeck, Kirstin (Jordan) Stanbridge, Corbin (Emily) Birkbeck, and Gavin (Haley) Birkbeck, her nine grandchildren, Owen, Harper, Gavin, Scarlett, Dominic, Cosmo, Allie, Zoey, and Quinten, her two sisters, Dana (Mike) Anger and Michelle (Don) Zahorak, her sister-in-law, Sue (Wayne) Young, and her loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert Dorris. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Galena EMS, East Dubuque Fire, Menominee Dunleith Fire, Jo Daviess County Sheriff, Galena Police Department, and Mercy One. Your response, compassion, and care will never be forgotten.
