Beverly “Bev” Jean Friede, 82, of Galena, IL passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017 at her daughter Lori’s home surrounded by her loving family. In keeping with her wishes there will be no public services. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. She was born November 2, 1934 in Streator, IL the daughter of William R. and Mildred I. (Pugh) Williams. Bev attended school in Streator. She was united in marriage to Donald “Dutch” Friede on July 13, 1952 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Streator and he preceded her in death on August 12, 2004.  Bev graduated from Beauty School in 1963 and owned and operated her own Beauty Shop in Rockford, IL. In 1974 she and her family moved to Galena where she continued to operate a beauty shop for a few years. She later opened the Lil Britchin’ Post children’s store in downtown Galena until her retirement in 1989. Bev loved to travel and spend time in the Florida Keys. She enjoyed shopping, attending all of her grandchildren’s activities and socializing at the Galena Elks Lodge, Log Cabin and Paradise.  She is survived by her children, William (Mary) Friede of Rockford, IL, Mary Jane (Bret) Elwell of Marathon, FL, Lynn (Rich) Richardson of Galena and Lori (Kurt) Einsweiler of Galena, seventeen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, a sister, Cherie Grennan of Streator. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald “Dutch” Friede and a son, Brian on May 9, 2016. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to hospice of Dubuque, Furlong Funeral Chapel and their many friends and family for their many acts of kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Dubuque in Bev’s memory.
