Barbara J. (Montgomery) Benson, 79 of Galena, IL passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at Galena Stauss Senior Care Community. Funeral service will be 10 AM, Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery, Galena. Friends may call from 3 to 7 PM, Friday, November 6, 2015 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel. She was born September 15, 1936 in Galena the daughter of Everett and Viola (Krohmer) Montgomery. She was united in marriage to John Benson Jr. in Galena and he preceded her in death on August 21, 1989. Barb worked various jobs and retired from Invenses, Hanover, IL. She enjoyed crafts, watching cooking shows and playing bingo. Barb loved to cook and spend time with her family and many grandchildren. She was a devoted member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Galena where she sang in the choir. She is survived by her three children, Dan (Gail Donnelly) Montgomery of Janesville, WI, Patty (John) Corley and Randy (Sally) Montgomery both of Shullsburg, WI, fifteen grandchildren and four step grandchildren and many great grandchildren, one sister; Bev Haase of Galena, five brothers, Jim (Betty) Montgomery, Robert (Roberta) Montgomery, Terry (Teresa) Montgomery, Steve (Bishop) Montgomery all of Galena and Tom (Cindy) Montgomery of Indiana and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a step-son, Benny Benson, one brother, Bill “Willy” Montgomery and a sister Dorothy Benson.
