Dennis L. Story

Dennis L. Story, 78 of Galena, IL passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at his home. The placement of the urn will take place at 10 AM, on Thursday, November 12, 2026, at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL. The Furlong Funeral Chapel of Galena is assisting the family. Formerly of Chicago, IL, he and his wife moved to Galena in August 1997. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and friend who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Dennis graduated from Charles A. Prosser Career Academy in Chicago in 1966 and the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1973. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1971 as a cartographic drafter while stationed at Ford Island, Hawaii. In 1969, Dennis married Jean F. Nuccio in Park Ridge, IL. He worked for many years at Eaton as a Circuit Board Engineer before relocating to Galena. Dennis enjoyed watching sports, bowling in a league for many years, and entertaining family and friends in his home. He also enjoyed upholstery work on the side. He was a member of the American Legion in Galena and valued his connection to the veteran community. Dennis is survived by his wife, Jean; four children, Patrick J. (Kimberly Rose) Story of Mundelein, IL; Annette J. Story of Scales Mound, IL; Nicholas D. (Heather Dwyer) Story of Lakemoor, IL; and Elizabeth L. (Story) Polfliet of Galena, and seven grandchildren, Anna and Ryan Story, Joshua and Isabella Cole, Linley and Kennedy Story, and Oliver Polfliet. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Story; his mother, Linley (Covington) Story; his daughter, Jolynn M. (Story) Prajel; his granddaughter, Kaitlyn R. Story, and a grandson, Trevor Prajel. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Hospice of Dubuque, the Veterans Affairs team and VA Hospital of Madison, and the American Legion of Galena for their care, support, and assistance.
