Sandra M. Froehlich

Sandra M. Froehlich, 88, a resident of Galena, IL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Midwest Senior Care Center in Galena. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel in Galena, where friends may call after 10 AM until the time of service. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Galena. Born on February 10, 1938, in Chicago, Sandie was a loved and cherished wife of Edward. They were married August 3, 1963, and at the time of her death, they had been married 63 years and 3 days. She was a treasured mother, grandmother, and was looking forward to the impending birth of her first great-grandchild. She was a devoted parent to Laura Dragosz (nee Froehlich), Patti Hansen (nee Froehlich), Michael Froehlich, and Kathy Christiansen (nee Froehlich). She was a proud and ultra-loving grandmother to Emily and Justin Dragosz, and Kelsey and Hayden Christiansen. As a member of Galena Golf Club, she enjoyed golfing with friends in their league and enjoyed dinner somewhere and everywhere in the area. She was a member of the Elks Club, American Legion, and Women’s Auxiliary, where she worked alongside her husband to raise funds to help Veterans. She grew up in Libertyville, IL, and graduated from high school in 1956. She took great pride in being offered both a sports and musical scholarship; however, she chose to enter the workforce. Sandie worked for Commonwealth Edison, starting as a clerk and quickly rose to support the General Manager in downtown Chicago. She then left the workforce in 1965 to start a family of four, moving to Barrington, IL in 1973 and building a new home. When her children were older, she returned to the workforce as an assistant to Richard Duchossois, owner of Arlington Park International Race Course, and Hill N Dale Farm, a thoroughbred facility in Barrington Hills. The position gave her wonderful experiences meeting top executives in the political, business, and entertainment world. Additionally, maintained the breeding records of over 175 mares, foals, and yearlings per month. She then moved on to work for Northrop Grumman; ultimately rising to the position of executive assistant to the Vice President of Human Resources. She worked there for 25 years before retiring and moving to her “special place” of Galena, where she liked nothing more than spending time with family and playing cards around the dining room table while monitoring a Cubs or Bears game. On the day the last child left home, she sat Edward down, gave him a drink, lit his cigar, and said, “Now it’s our turn, so let’s dip our toes into every ocean and try to climb every mountain!” They then traveled across Europe and Antarctica. She has gone back to Heaven to rejoin her parents, Doris and Andrew Korkoshuk. Along with many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. Though deeply missed, her spirit and energy will live on through the memories of her family and friends.
