Michael J. Bergles

Michael John Bergles, Age 63, of Palatine, Illinois, passed away this past Thursday February 19, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and devotion to his family.

Born on May 23, 1962, Mike grew up with a quick wit and a generous heart that would come to define his life. He graduated from Main West High School, Class of 1980, and went on to trade school to become a pipefitter. Mike proudly worked for 28 years with Great Lakes Plumbing & Heating, Union 597, where he was known for his strong work ethic, loyalty, and the humor he brought to every job. Later working at Chestnut Mountain Resort as General Manager, as Big Mountain Mike, where his energy and heart touched many.

Mike had a gift for making people laugh. He always had a joke ready, a playful remark, or a smile that could lift a room. His warmth, kindness, and lighthearted spirit made people feel welcome and at ease wherever he went.

He was a devoted husband, loving father, caring brother, and treasured friend. His greatest joy was his family, and the love he gave them will remain a lasting source of strength and comfort.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Bettina Bergles; his children, Olivia Glawe, Quinten Bergles, and Tara Bergles; his son-in-law, David Glawe; his sister, Linda Bergles-Daul; his brother, Bryan Bergles; and his sister, Traci Bergles. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Erika Hoppe; his father, “Buddy” John Bergles; his stepfather, Thomas Precht; and his brother-in-law, Robert Paul.

Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 26, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Smith-Corcoran Palatine Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Highway, Palatine, Illinois with a Memorial Service to be held that night at 6 p.m.

A second visitation to celebrate Mike’s life will be held on Monday, March 2, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Chestnut Mountain Resort.

Mike will be remembered for his laughter, his loyalty, and the love he shared so freely. Though he left us far too soon, the joy he brought into our lives remains with us always.
