Wayne D. McDermott, 86 of Galena, IL passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Midwest Medical Center, Galena. Funeral service will be 11 AM, Monday, January, 23, 2017 at the United Methodist Church, Galena. Friends may gather from 1 to 4 PM, Sunday, January 22, 2017 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena and after 10 AM, Monday at the church. Burial will be held at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded. Military honors will be accorded following the service at the church by the Galena VFW Post #2665 and American Legion Post #193. He was born September 13, 1930 in Galena the son of Charles and Susan (Symons) McDermott. Wayne grew-up in Galena and graduated from Galena High School. He served two years in the United States Marines from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1952. Wayne was united in marriage to Lonna Radabaugh on June 20, 1955 in Hanover, IL and she survives. He worked for the First National Bank of Galena for twenty-four years and served as night auditor for Chestnut Mountain Resort for twenty-years. Wayne loved traveling and camping especially out west. He taught his love of nature and the countryside to his children and grandchildren. Wayne will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. He always had a soft spot in his heart for the under privileged and less fortunate. Wayne was a member of the American Legion Post #193 and the United Methodist Church. He was a lifelong New York Yankees, Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Rams fan. Wayne was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather and will be sorely missed by his family. He is survived by his wife Lonna, his children, Jack (friend Denise) McDermott of Galena, Bruce (Amy) McDermott of Elizabeth, IL, Wayne (Cathy) McDermott of Dubuque, Lori (Butch) Brininger of Galena and Joni (Randy) Decker of Dubuque, ten grandchildren, Nikki, Travis, Emily, Rachel, Aaron, Nathan, Kevin, Jordan, Sydney and Dylan, two great grandchildren, Mason and Anna. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Charles “Chuck” McDermott, and a grandson, Jacob Glasgow.
