Virginia “Ginny” Beatty

Virginia “Ginny” Ann Beatty, 90, of Galena, IL passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2016, at her son’s home surrounded by her loving family. Services will be at 11:30 am, Thursday, August 25, 2016 at the United Methodist Church, Galena. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena. Friends may call after 9:30 AM at the United Methodist Church until time of service. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. She was born on March 28, 1926, in Ottumwa, Iowa, daughter of Francis and Edith (Pencil) Williams. She married Frank C. “Curt” Beatty on Aug 7, 1948, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. She graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1944. She went on to receive her Associates from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. Together, Ginny and Curt raised their family, moving from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Ottumwa, Iowa, Darien Illinois, Naperville, Illinois and Edgewater, Kentucky before retiring to Galena, Illinois. Ginny worked for many years at Lisle High School, Lisle, Illinois as the Executive Assistant to the Principle. In Galena, Ginny was active in Questers and a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She was an active member of the Galena United Methodist Church and volunteer docent at the Washburne House where she shared many “unclassified” tales. Ginny was a loving wife for 58 years to Curt until his death in 2006. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends, exploring all corners of the globe. She was an avid seamstress and loved both knitting and quilting. She enjoyed fishing and boat rides on Lake Galena. Ginny loved baseball, traveling annually to Arizona to scout out fall ball. She especially loved the Chicago Cubs, always ready for ‘next year’. Surviving are three children, Chris (Sue) Beatty, of Kansas City, Mo., Cindy (Carl)Blakemore, of Montgomery, Il, and Clark (Judy) Beatty, of Aurora; four grandchildren, Scott, Brian, Andrew, Jenny Beatty, four great-grandchildren, Ean Miller, Gabrielle, Jackson and Teagan Beatty.   She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Curt and her sister, Marillyn Mendenhall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the United Methodist Church, 125 South Bench St, Galena, IL, 61036 and the Washburne House, Galena, IL.
