Terrance L. “Terry” Gaber

Terrance L. “Terry” Gaber, 79, of Galena, IL passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna, IL. Funeral service will be 11 AM, Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena and where friends may gather after 10 AM until time of service. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Galena. Military honors will be accorded graveside by Galena VFW Post #2665 and American Legion Post #193. Cremation rites have been accorded. Terry was born on April 15, 1939 in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Lloyd B. (“Frenchie”) and Amy (Weigel) Gaber. He attended St. Mary’s Grade School and graduated from Galena High School in 1958. Terry served in the United States Air Force and was stationed for 3 ½ years in the Azore Islands before his Honorable Discharge in 1961. He was united in marriage to Lynn Jackson on July 23, 1966 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Galena and they raised two sons and a daughter. In their nearly 52 years of marriage, he and Lynn and their children shared so many interests. Fishing, boating, camping, antiquing, gardening, entertaining friends and relatives and working on community projects were just a few. Terry also loved woodworking and creating beautiful pieces of furniture. One of his favorite building projects was making the Christmas stable for St. Mary’s Church. Terry was a devoted husband, dad, and grandfather. He was a gentle and kind man, with a quick and witty sense of humor. He was so proud of his children and in later years found much joy in being with his grandchildren and his nieces and nephews. Terry provided 31 years of loyal service to John Deere in Dubuque. In his retirement years he worked in maintenance for the Galena Territory Association and the Galena Green Condominium. He was known for being able to fix almost anything, and he regularly volunteered to help family and friends over the years. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Church, and a 56 year member of the Galena Elks Lodge #882. Survivors include his wife, Lynn; his children, Adam (Diane) Gaber of Monroe, CT, Jennifer (Bart Terrell) Gaber, of Madison, WI, Aaron (Michelle) Gaber of Black Earth, WI, ten grandchildren, Sean (Mia) McMillan, Kasey McMillan, Jack and Annirose Gaber, C. J. and Damon Terrell and Isabella, Alexa, Addison and Emmalyn Gaber; one great-grandson, Luka McMillan; sister, Mary Lou (Lawrence) Cook of Galena, IL; brother-in-laws, Paul (Judy), Mark (Darlene) and Brian (Lisa) Jackson, sisters-in-law, Ginny, Susie and Cathy Jackson, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Keith; sister Donna Honshel, nephew, Tim Honshel; niece Kathy Cook; mother and father-in law, Archie and Alice Jackson; brothers-in-law, Stephen, Dean, Ross and Scott Jackson and Bill Honshel. The family wishes to thank Dr. Michael Wells, the Galena-Stauss Adult Day Care, Mercy Hospice of Clinton, IA, the entire kind and caring staff at Big Meadows Nursing Home and our family and friends for all of their support.
