Stephen “Steve” T. Langas

Stephen “Steve” Langas, 81, of Galena, IL was chosen to meet with God on Monday November 13, 2017. He died peacefully at his home with his wife and daughter by his side. Funeral service will be 11 AM, Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the United Methodist Church, Galena and where friends may gather after 10 AM until time of service. Friends may call from 3 to 7 PM, Friday, November 17, 2017 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation on Friday. Burial will be at a later date. Steve was born on September 17, 1936 in Dubuque, Iowa.  He is the son of Thomas and Idella (Brazee) Langas.  He was brought up in the Greek Orthodox Faith.  Steve graduated from Senior High School in Dubuque in 1954.  He was later drafted into the United States Army where he served 2 years. In 1958, Steve became a member of the United Methodist Church in Galena. It was at this church on May 24, 1959 that he married his wife Ruth Ann Phillips. Steve worked at Farley and Loetscher in Dubuque, Iowa and at Leo’s Grocery Market in Galena, Illinois.  He then spent the next 26 ½ years working at John Deere before retiring. In his younger years Steve loved dancing, roller skating, bowling, and traveling with his family.  He was an avid animal lover and enjoyed working in his yard. Steve is survived by his wife Ruth Ann; daughter Christine (Marian) of Houston, TX; brother Duke (Priscilla) Langanis of Dubuque; two sisters in-law, Marilyn and Betty Langas both of Dubuque and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, George and Phillip Langas, and his sister Sophia Wilcox, a brother in-law, Robert Wilcox. The family would like to thank Dr. Ringold, Kristy, Wendy, Jeremy, and all the employees at Tri State Dialysis Center for their kindness and care; Hospice of Dubuque and Katie G. for their compassion and care; and to all of our family and friends for their support during these trying times.
