Shirley Wasmund, 78, of Galena, IL passed away Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Galena Stauss Senior Community. Friends may gather from 5 to 7 PM on Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Burial will be held at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded. She was born June 6, 1939 in Galena the daughter of Kenneth and Elaine (Smith) Harwick. Shirley graduated from Galena High School with the class of 1957. She spent her life in Galena working as a waitress at various restaurants. Shirley enjoyed going for walks, caring for her flowers and playing Big Boggle with her daughter Pam. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister and will be deeply missed by those left to cherish her memory. She is survived by her four children, Mike Wasmund of Dubuque, Sheila and Pam Wasmund both of Galena and Paul (Darcy) Wasmund of East Dubuque, IL, eight grandchildren, Erica, Michael, Christopher, Amanda, Curtis, Andy, Luke and Travis, twelve great-grandchildren, two sisters, Rhonda Harwick and Beth (Scott) Sjovall, her soulmate. Jack McDermott of Dubuque and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Stanley Wasmund, a sister, Audrey Harwick, two brothers, Ron and Craig Harwick. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Midwest Medical Center, Galena Stauss Senior Care Community and Hospice of Dubuque.
