Ruth “Ruthie” A. Shuey, 74, of Galena, passed away after a brief illness, Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM. Monday, November 20, 2017, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Galena, Illinois with Bishop John Manz and Reverend David Reese officiating. Friends may call after 9:30 AM at the church until time of Mass. Burial will be held at a later date. Cremation rites will follow the mass. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. Ruthie was born in Galena on August 16, 1943, daughter of Glenn and Edith (Manz) Shuey. She attended St. Mary’s Grade School and Galena High School. After graduation she lived with the School Sisters of Notre Dame returning after her mother’s death. She worked at the Ben Franklin Store, Jo Daviess County Workshop, The Gifted Drummer and Signcraft Screenprint. She is survived by her brothers and sisters, David (Sharon) Shuey, William (Pat) Shuey, Mary Jean (Drew) Mullen, Diane (Marty) Rosenthal, Judy (Terry) White, Susan (Greg) Pfaff, and Martha (Dan) Dittmar and many special nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their thanks to Dr. Mary Koenigs, Father Reese and Father Vogel, the doctors and staff at Mercy Medical Center and the staff at the Galena Stauss Nursing home for their loving care and compassion. Ruthie was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother, Richard and sister, Karen Shuey.
