Ronald “Ron” C. Berlage, 64, of Galena, IL passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2018, after a courageous battle with stomach and gastroesophageal cancer at home. Funeral service will be 11:30 AM, Saturday, July 14, 2018, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena and where friends may gather after 10 AM until the time of service. Burial will be held at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded. The Furlong Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. He was born December 11, 1953, in Dubuque, IA the son of Clem and Stella (Folks) Berlage. Ron graduated from Galena High School in 1972. He married Donna Scharpf on June 1, 1974, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Galena and she survives. Ron worked at Kraft Cheese Plant, Galena while still in High School. He worked for Sisler Construction, Galena from 1972-1978 and Don Green Construction from 1979-1981. Ron then decided to start his own construction business in 1982 and did so until 2011. In addition to his construction business, he worked side by side with his wife restoring muscle cars from 1979-2011. His Chevelle and many of the GTO’s were featured in several magazines and had won numerous awards at National Shows. In 1997, he decided to restore his family tractor, a 1951 Farmall “H” this lead him to start Pilot Knob Restorations. He began by restoring numerous tractors and then selling and manufacturing parts for International Harvester tractors. Ron’s proudest moment was the birth of his son Andy. Then in later years, he enjoyed working side by side with Andy helping him with his business. He was a Cub Scout leader and later a Boy Scout leader enjoying the many high adventures he took with his scouts. Ron was a member of the Galena Elks Lodge. In his spare time when he wasn’t helping Andy with his farm, he enjoyed taking trips with Donna on his Harley, to Tennessee and out West. Traveling and hiking in as many National Parks as possible was also a favorite past-time. Ron loved to cook especially for family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Donna, his son, Andy, his mother, Stella Berlage of Galena, a brother, John Berlage of East Dubuque, IL, his sister, Darlene Greibe of Galena, sister-in-law, Diane Berlage of Dubuque and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his dad Clem, his step-dad, Cletus Berlage and a brother Dennis. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Dubuque for all their care and support.
