Robert Raymond Hickman, 80, of rural Hanover, IL went to be with Jesus during the evening of Monday, September 21, 2015 at Elizabeth Nursing Home, Elizabeth, IL. In keeping with his wishes a private family burial will be held at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. He was born November 13, 1934 in Freeport, IL the son of John Sr. and Blanche (Knuckey) Hickman. His father’s work as a railroad postal clerk took the family throughout west-central Illinois, and Robert was raised in Rushville, Galesburg, and Ontario, IL. Robert graduated in 1953 from ROVA High School in Oneida, IL. He was united in marriage to Edna Mae Guenzler on June 29, 1963 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Massbach, IL and she preceded him in death on December 10, 2003. Robert worked as a machinist for Ingersoll-Rand, Rockford, IL for many years until his retirement. He enjoyed working on his hobby farm, collecting toy tractors and model classic cars, and attending train shows. Robert attended Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elizabeth. He is survived by six nieces, Sharon, Linda, Deb, Patricia, Donna and Barbara; his late wife’s family including her sisters, Loris Beyer of Elizabeth, IL and her sons, Wayne and Roger Beyer and Marlys (Robert) Zink of Warren, IL and her son, Joel Zink, and her brothers, Marion (Joyce) and Ivan (Kathleen) Guenzler, both of Massbach, IL and their families ; a brother-in-law, Jack Thomas of Frost, Texas; his special friend, Betty Page, of the Elizabeth Nursing Home; and a very loyal and faithful family friend, Larry Elliott of rural Hanover. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters, June Traver and Marjorie Thomas, one brother, John Hickman Jr., and a nephew, Danny Hickman.
