Rita V. Holland, 98 of Galena, IL passed away Tuesday July 21, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral mass will be noon, Friday, July 25, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Galena and where friends may call after 10 AM until time of service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. She was born October 8, 1916 in Johnstown, PA the daughter of Otto and Margie (Riley) Karberg. Rita was united in marriage to the love of her life Edmund “Ed” Holland on April 15, 1943 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and he preceded her in death on December 19, 1990. She moved to Galena from Johnstown where she met and later married her husband, Ed. Rita was a homemaker who was very dedicated to raising her children and later her grandchildren. She was a very charitable person and was always willing to help anyone at any time. Rita had a very strong religious faith and was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She loved classical country music, soap operas, playing cards and was an avid Cubs fan. She is survived by a son, Ed (Diane) Holland of Galena, three daughters, Patty Westaby of Stockton, IL, Sandy (Ron) Diskin of Woodstock, IL and Cindy (Tom) Barrett of Galena, eleven grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, daughter in-law, Margo (Joe) Pink of Elizabeth, IL three sisters in-law and many special friends. Rita was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, David in July of 1987 and a daughter, Betty on the same day as her beloved mother, a son in-law, John Westaby and her brothers and sisters in-law. The family wishes to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to Hospice of Dubuque for their care and compassion during this difficult time.
