Mary Leinen

Mary S. Leinen, 75, of Galena, died Sunday, November 5, 2017, at home with her children at her side. A funeral mass will be held at 1 PM, on Friday, November 10, 2017 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Galena where friends may gather after 11:30 AM until time of mass. Burial will be held at a later date in Holy Cross Cemetery, Milwaukee, WI. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. She was born on September 2, 1942 in Dubuque, the daughter of Ned and Mabel (Weland) Fratus. She was raised in Bellevue, IA and attended Marquette High School (’60). She received a B.S. from Loyola University (’64), an M.A. (English) from DePaul University (’67), a master’s in counseling (UW-Platteville, ’86) and was an R.N. (Highland, ’94). She worked as a nurse from 1994 until her retirement in 2012. Mary was a parishioner of St. Michael’s / St. Mary’s Catholic Churches in Galena and was co-founder and volunteer for the St. Michael’s Food Pantry when it started in the 1980s.

She is survived by a daughter, Larissa, of San Antonio, TX; a son, Ronald (Lisa), of Galena; her brother, David (Monica) Fratus, of Hiram, OH; and three grandchildren, Claire, Joaquin and Victoria. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Norbert, in 2011, and her infant son, Jonathan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Michael’s / St. Mary’s Churches in Galena, and Hospice of Dubuque.
