Margaret “Peggy” Kilroy

Margaret “Peggy” Kilroy

Margaret “Peggy” Kilroy, 69, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016. She was known best in the Galena area for her quilting skills as she was the Queen of the Potholders. A brief visitation will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Holy Trinity Church, Scales Mound, IL followed by mass at 11 AM. Margaret’s ashes will be buried later this summer in Chicago when arrangements can be made. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. Born in Chicago, Margaret first found Apple River in her college years when her family purchased some property. Camping on weekends led her family to fall in love with the area. Later, they built a log cabin where her surviving mother, Dolores, still lives. Margaret learned to enjoy rural life as much as she did life in the city and she retired to Apple River full-time, in 2008. While quilting was her true passion, she enjoyed being out and about, befriending almost all who crossed her path. She was active in the Apple Canyon Lake area with swimming and gardening, as well as being active with her church, Holy Trinity, in Scales Mound, IL.  Family who miss her include her mother Dolores, her bother Timothy and sister-in-law Joane, as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews. Her amazing friends also mourn her passing but will keep her memory active by continuing to support all that Margaret held dear.
