Lois Jean Wienen, 67 of Galena, IL passed away Thursday, July 30, 2015 at her home after displaying a courageous battle in her fight against breast/bone cancer surrounded by family and friends. Funeral mass will be 10:30 AM Monday, August 3, 2015 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Galena. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery, Galena. Friends may call from 1 to 5 PM Sunday, August 2, 2015 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Lois was born in Lancaster, WI the daughter of Joseph and Rita (Ginter) Kaiser. She married James Wienen on October 1, 1966 and he preceded her in death on July 15, 1991. Lois worked for over forty-six years in the banking industry as a Senior Lending Officer at Galena State Bank & Trust. She also worked with her late husband Jim, who was instrumental in bringing the first PUD development to Galena. She managed together with Jim-their companies Wienen Brothers Inc., West Galena Development and Galena Stone Products for over several decades. Lois donated the land for the development known as the James H. Wienen Memorial Park. She focused her views on the development of the community and the goodness of its people. Lois will be sadly missed by her precious friends, family and former customers of Galena State Bank. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Lois was a member of many organizations including Galena Chamber of Commerce, Galena Rotary Club, Galena Country Fair Board, BPOE 88 Galena Elks, Diocese of Rockford Finance Council, Illinois State Easter Seals, St. Michael’s Church Board Member and many more not mentioned. Surviving are her children Pamela (Steven) Ehrler and Michael (Jane) Wienen, four grandchildren, Cassie Wills, Austin (Samantha) Wills, Abbey Ehrler and Kelsie Wienen, one step-great grandchild, Kara Weber, one great grandchild, Baby Wills to be born end of August, three sisters, Marlene (Jack) Gehrts, Karen (Dave) Gerber and Mary Jo (Scott) Reinke, one brother, James (Jean) Kaiser, mother in-law, Mary Wienen, brother in-law, Dan (Cathy) Wienen. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Kenneth and David Kaiser, father in-law, Harold Wienen. The family would like to extend a sincere appreciation to Dubuque Oncology, Hospice of Dubuque, Galena Medical Clinic and all their compassionate associates. A very special thank you to Elly Renner and Jeanette Dalquist for their spiritual and care support. A Lois Wienen memorial fund has been established.
