Lavoy Arlen Douvikas

Lavoy Arlen Douvikas, 87, of Hanover, IL passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016 at his home. In keeping with his wishes there will be no public services. Cremation rites have been accorded. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. He was born November 12, 1928 in Freeport, IL the son of George and Gertrude (Berryman) Douvikas.  Lavoy graduated from Hanover High School with the class of 1947. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge. Lavoy was united in marriage to Janaan Smith on October 17, 1953 at the First Presbyterian Church, Galena and she survives. He worked for thirty eight years at the Savanna Army Depot operating a fork lift, a chauffeur to the visiting Generals and the majority of the time as a carpenter. Lavoy enjoyed playing cards especially euchre and travelling. He was a lifetime member of the Hanover VFW.  He is survived by his wife Janaan, two sons, Kim (Sharon) and Rick (Daphne) both of Hanover, two daughters, Lynn (John) Eastman of Hartwood, VA and Darcy (Mike) Speaker of Hanover, nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, a half-brother, James (Debbie) Douvikas of Danville, CA, and a half-sister, Alanee Douvikas of CA, two nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to FHN Hospice of Freeport for their care and compassion these past few months.
