Joseph “Joe” H. Montgomery, 66, of Galena, IL passed away Monday, April 25, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family and friends. Funeral mass will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, April 28, 2016 at St. Michaels Catholic Church, Galena. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 PM, Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena where a scripture wake service will be held at 3 PM. He was born October 29, 1949 in Hazel Green, WI the son of Norman “Duke” and Irene (Burke) Montgomery. Joe began his working career on the Burke farm at the age of 12. He worked for Westwick Foundry, West, East and Rawlins Township, Montgomery Trucking, Cole Tree Service and Windy Hill Construction. Joe enjoyed big game hunting with his uncle Clair, trap shooting and caring for his dogs. He is survived by his sister, Margaret (John) Saam of Galena, a nephew, Chris Saam, his loyal companion, Red Dog and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Michael and his very special uncle, Clair Burke.
