John Gerald Piquett, 61, of Galena, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at home surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with brain cancer. John was born on March 4, 1956 in Dubuque, IA, the son of Augustus and Inez (Furlong) Piquett. John was united in marriage to Joanne Edwards on May 31, 2013 in Galena, IL. He was a graduate of Galena High School, class of 1974. John was employed in the travel industry for many years and enjoyed golfing, watching western movies and playing cribbage. He is survived by his wife, Joanne; step-daughters, Kelly (Kevin) Burberry and Jessica Fassbinder (Carson Walker); mother, Inez (Furlong) Piquett; twin sister, Joanne (Francis) Wachter; sisters, Maggie (Dave) Oldenburg, Patricia (John) Foecking, Cathy (Scott) Sheets and Carol (John) Head; sisters-in-law, Judy Edwards; Diane (Richard) Schieltz and Loretta (Riely) Piquett; mother-in-law, Bernice (Robert) Edwards; fourteen nieces & nephews; twenty-five great nieces & nephews; two grandsons and his beloved dog, Lucy. John was preceded in death by his father, Augustus Piquett; brother, Charlie Piquett and a great-nephew. A celebration of John’s life will be held at an open house at The Galena Golf Club on Saturday, April 15^th, from 2:00pm until 4:00pm. All are welcome and we look forward to everyone stopping by to celebrate John’s life and all of the love he has shared with each of us.
