Ernest W. Wieters Jr., 90 of Galena, IL passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Epione Pavilion Southwest Health Center, Cuba City, WI. Friends may call Friday, December, 22, 2017 from 4 to 7 PM, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. A committal service will be held graveside at 10 AM, Saturday, December 23, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Galena. Military honors will be accorded graveside by Galena VFW Post #2665 and American Legion Post #193. He was born October 21, 1927 in Galena the son of Ernest Sr. and Ruth (Westemeier) Wieters. Ernest graduated from Galena High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp until his honorable discharge. Ernest was united in marriage to Frances M. Schonhoff on October 23, 1948 in Galena and she preceded him in death on March 9, 2009. He worked for Kraft Foods Galena for forty-eight years until his retirement. After retiring from Kraft Foods he drove for Jo Daviess County Meals on Wheels for thirteen years. Ernest enjoyed gardening, sports especially the Cubs and Bears, attending his various family events. He loved his family dearly and will be sadly missed. He is survived by one son, James (Geri) Wieters of Platteville, WI, two daughters, Kimberly (James) Bloom of Sterling, IL and Tama (Keith) Wilson of Cuba City, WI, daughter in-law, Terry Tarkett of Galena, ten grandchildren, Molly (Mike) Leeder, Ryan (Ashley) Wieters, Emily (Dan) Pape, Christopher (Amy) Wilson, Kaila Wilson, Brett Wilson, Rachel (Danny) Mast, David Bloom, Whitney Wieters, Katie Wieters, nine great-grandchildren, Weston, Will and Charlotte Leeder, Elise and Blake Wieters, Elizabeth and Samantha Pape, Seth and Lincoln Wilson, Abigail and Lillian Frey, a sister, Audrey Waller of Epworth, IA, a sister in-law, Evelyn (Merlin) Lange, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son, Mark, a brother, Donald and a sister in-law, June Marie Wieters, a brother in-law Dave Waller. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Epione Pavilion-Southwest Health Center for their care and compassion these past few years.
