Dr. Martin Eden Farbstein passed peacefully from this world to the next on September 3, 2017. He was 91 years of age. Respecting his wishes, a private memorial service will be held. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 17, 1926. He served his country in World War II wearing the naval uniform, then later, a second stint in his nation’s Army. He was a man of education receiving both a bachelor degree in chemistry, and a doctorate degree in medicine, eventually serving as a caring physician to an enormous number of people in southwestern Wisconsin and northern Illinois for more than 35 years. A proud American, he met his future bride in Switzerland, the union maintained through an enduring and loving marriage of 67 years. He developed a strong bond to that country and its people and in many ways was a second homeland. He worked in the end through a difficult illness with great dignity and fortitude, before finally being released from the bonds of earthly life, an inspiration to both family and friends in the way he navigated his journey. He will be missed by all he touched. He is survived by his immediate and loving family, wife Trudy, and his children, Ursula, Tracy, Bruce and Arlene. In memoriam, the family would request any donations of remembrance go to the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra Fund, as a testimonial to his life-long love of music.
