Dale M. “Jack” Stephenson, 95 of Galena, IL passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral service will be 11 AM, Monday, May 22, 2017 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Friends may call from 1 to 5 PM, Sunday, May 21, 2017 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena where military honors will be accorded graveside by Galena VFW Post #2665 and American Legion Post #193. Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation on Sunday. He was born September 2, 1921 in Dodgeville, WI the son of George and Marjorie (Dixon) Stephenson. Jack graduated from Hazel Green High School in 1939. He served in the Signal Corps as a radio repairman in Europe during WW II, and after the war he attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering. He was united in marriage to Martha Carlene “Korkie” Houy on November 28, 1951 at the First Methodist Church, Galena and she preceded him in death on September 17, 2006. Jack drove truck for several years and then began dairy farming in 1953, retiring in 1990. He served from 1993 until 2009 as East Galena Township tax assessor. Jack served on the Galena school board from 1968 until 1977, where he served a term as president. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Galena Elks Lodge #882, the Lions Club and Miner’s Lodge #273. Jack was an avid Green Bay Packer and Chicago Cub fan and was finally able to celebrate a World Series victory last fall. He is survived by his two children, Tim (Tammy) Stephenson of Galena, Kim (Rich) Goldberg of Deerfield, IL, four grandchildren, Jason (fiance` Brittani Cornwell) Stephenson, Jill (Jon) Weis, Andy (Ashley) Goldberg and Michael Goldberg, ten great-grandchildren, Bailey, Gracie, Jack and Lola Stephenson, Carley, Anna, Jonny and Lucas Weis, Evan and Owen Goldberg, and one step-great-granddaughter, Reagan Cornwell-Duddeck; two sisters, Marjorie Wharton and Barbara Jones and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and three brothers, James, George and Donald. The family would like to thank Dr. Crist, Medical Associates Galena Clinic, 24-Hour Health Care and Hospice of Dubuque for their kind and compassionate care. Special thanks to Bill and Jackie Houy for the love and care they gave their Uncle Jack. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Dubuque, 1670 JFK Road, Dubuque, IA 52002.
