David LaDow

David J. LaDow, 78 of Galena, IL and formerly of Chicago, IL passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Unity Point/Finley Hospital, Dubuque, IA. Funeral service will be 11 AM, Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Galena. Military honors will be accorded graveside by Galena VFW Post #2665 and American Legion Post #193. Friends may visit from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Furlong Funeral Chapel and where a St. Jude service will be held at 7 PM. He was born October 11, 1936 in Elyria, OH the son of John and Lucille (Crayton) LaDow. Dave enlisted in the US Army serving from June 1954 until his honorable discharge in June of 1957. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Popera on June 18, 1962 in Oak Park, IL and she survives. In 1964 he began his career as a Chicago police officer. He worked his way up thru the ranks and eventually made sergeant. Dave retired in 1998 from the 24th District of Rogers Park after thirty-four years of total service. He loved cars, socializing and meeting new friends wherever he ventured. Dave was a member of the Illinois Police Association, Fraternal Order of Police, Sergeants Association of Chicago and the Retired Police Officers of Chicago. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, a son, David LaDow both of Galena and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Susan. A big thank you to Barbara, Anna and Sandy your kindness and support will never be forgotten.
