Christopher J. “Gus” Saam, 47, of Galena, IL passed away Saturday, November 10, 2018. Funeral mass will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, November 15, 2018, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Galena. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM, Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. He was born July 19, 1971, in Galena the son of John and Margaret (Montgomery) Saam. Chris graduated from Galena High School with the class of 1989. He went on to attend Western Illinois University where he earned his Master’s degree in Mathematics. Chris worked as Software Engineer for Quark in Denver, CO, the Department of the Interior in Washington, DC and Microsoft in Redmond, VA. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, talking on his phone, taking pictures and face booking. Chris loved spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his parents, two children, Alexander and Christana Saam, his aunts and uncles, Donald (Ruth) and Richard (Mary Alice) Saam and by his many cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Norman “Duke” and Irene Montgomery, paternal grandparents, Vernon and Clara Saam, step-grandmother, Betty Saam, two uncles, Joe, and Mike Montgomery, an aunt, Virginia Sullivan and special great uncle, Clair Burke.
